About the painting:
In the summer of 2018 my family and I took our local youth group to Farmington NM on a mission trip. Afterwards, we drove to see the Grand Canyon for the first time. Before the trip I had packed my paints, an easel, and a canvas with the plan to set up on the edge of the canyon and paint it. Soon after our arrival I found a beautiful overlook, Hopi Point, facing the sunset. The vastness and colors of this glorious landscape took my breath away, I can't even describe all the things I felt when I sat down and picked up my brush to begin painting. Unfortunately, we were not there long enough to allow me to finish the piece. I was able to finish this treasure a year after our trip.
For the painting I used a slightly more modern style of art from my usual pieces. I wanted to capture all the colors, textures, and layers in the rock strata by overemphasizing everything. This is definitely a favorite project of mine.
